Academic Focus:

Harrow Summer Schools (awaiting 2024 details)

The well-known and regarded Harrow School has been offering short courses for the summer for boys and girls for over 30 years. They offer a great mix of serious study and serious fun activities and excursions for students with English levels from Beginner to Advanced. The main Harrow School is home for the Junior and Senior courses for both boys and girls, and for girls aged 8-17 there is an option for the girls-only Heathfield School. For those unable to get to the UK, one-to-one lessons online are available. Early booking is essential for these courses so please contact us to discuss your requirements or request a brochure.

Bucksmore Summer Schools

Perfected since 1979, Bucksmore Summer combines varied English language lessons in small classes of no more than 11 students with a well-rounded social programme. It is ideal for students on their first trip away from home and those looking for more attention than a typical summer camp.

Advanced Studies Programme, Oxford & Cambridge Universities
Ages 16-18

The Oxford and Cambridge Advanced Studies Programme allows students to experience life as an Oxford or Cambridge undergraduate , and also gives students a real advantage in the competitive world of college applications.

The course in Oxford is held at Brasenose College, University of Oxford. The course in Cambridge is held at Magdalene
College, University of Cambridge. Students choose two academic subjects with different courses available in Oxford
and Cambridge.

Subjects include: Business Management, Economics, Finance & Accounting, Marketing, Architecture, English Literature & Philosophy, History, Histor of Art, International Law, Politics & International Relations, Psychology, Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Biology, Chemistry, Medicine and Physics.

Young Professionals, d'Overbroeck's Oxford
Ages 13-16 & 16-18

‘Young Professionals’ receive a variety of teaching styles, including theory lessons, practical sessions and group project work. Two full day excursions are also provided each week, including one related to a student’s chosen specialism. Students choose one subject per week, and receive a combination of classroom theory-based teaching, as well as practical sessions. Each week, students go on a ‘study-in-action’ excursion, to a destination related to their chosen career.

Subjects include: Architecture, Engineering, Business & Enterprise, Medicine, Digital Marketing & Communications and Software Development.

Young Leaders, Wadham College Oxford
Ages 13-16 & 16-18

Based around the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the United Nations in 2015, this course will help students to develop key 21st century leadership skills whilst tackling issues that are increasingly important to modern teenagers, through creative projects and local action.

Young Performers, King's College London
Ages 13-16

Taught in partnership with West End On Demand (a group of accomplished performers and professionals with a background on stage), this course will provide unrivalled tuition via the classroom and practical workshops.
It will give students a detailed insight into life in the Performing Arts industry in the UK’s capital city and ensure they receive the true benefit of the full-day workshops at London theatres.

Etherton - Boarding School Preparation

Etherton Education have been running residential academic summer courses in the UK since 2002. The courses are designed to prepare international students for studying in British boarding schools. The courses are academic, with English for Education as the main focus. Alongside the academic studies, Etherton Education also work on personal development of each student’s ‘soft skills’. These include confidence, team work, leadership, communication, creativity and integration. All of the courses feature a full day trip each week, with an additional half day trip each week on the Junior Academic Course. There is an hour of sport each teaching day, along with Social Activities and Sunday Clubs. A team of Student Hosts who work every day outside of lessons help provide up to an additional 50 hours of social English practice every week. Etherton Education courses all have a full time timetable to really get a completely immersive boarding school experience.

Pre-A-Level / Pre-IB Course at Lord Wandsworth College, Hampshire.

This course is for students aged 15-17 years who are preparing to study A-Levels or the International Baccalaureate.  All students take compulsory English and Drama, and then choose an additional three to five subjects.  We have a large selection of subjects to choose from: Maths, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, History, Geography, Business Studies and Economics, Art and Design, ICT/Computing and Psychology.  We also offer additional evening workshops in Further Maths and Theory of Knowledge. 

Pre-GCSE Course at Queen’s College, Taunton

This course is for students aged 13-15 years who are preparing to study GCSEs.  During the summer, students follow a busy academic timetable.  Students take a compulsory programme of English and Drama, plus Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, ICT (Computers), Business Studies, Art, History and Geography.  The total class time is approximately 30 hours per week.

Junior Academic Course at Queen’s College, Taunton

This course is for younger students aged 10-12 years, combining hard work with lots of active learning and fun.  Students spend nine hours a week in English classes, three hours each in Drama and Maths, and 90 minutes each in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, History, Geography, Art, ICT and Life Skills.  Students learn English for daily life scenarios – talking about health, asking for directions, and so on.  The aim of this is to make them as comfortable as possible in adjusting to a new culture.  The total class time is approximately 25 hours per week.

Spring & Summer Programmes

British Study Centres Young Learners is unusual in that they offer programmes for Spring and Summer with a choice of locations (see below). Many locations are at independent schools around the UK and offer an amazing experience to young learners.

City Football Academy

Available for both boys and girls aged 9-13 and including English language plus football training in conjunction with Manchester City FC. Programmes include City Football Language, City Football Development, and City Football Performance. Players will experience the Etihad campus being based at the City Football Academy with accommodation nearby at Salford university Residence.

Spring - Bradfield College, Berkshire

Spring courses take place 27th March - 17th April 2022 at the leading independent school, Bradfield College for students aged 8-17 years old. Programmes include General and Intensive English, English plus Tennis and Ready for GCSE for those studying for exams in the UK.

Summer - King's College, Central London

The programmes at King's College run from 3rd July to 21st August and are for teenage learners aged 13 - 17 allow for some exciting tourism trips in and around London in the afternoons after English classes in the mornings. Programmes available include General English + Explore London, Street Art & Culture and Future Leaders & Entrepreneurs.

Summer - New Hall School, Essex

The school is on the site of the beautiful Palace of Beaulieu, once belonging to the Royal Family. Courses run from 17th July to 21st August 2022 for children aged 8 - 17 years old. Programmes include General & Intensive English and English + Horse Riding.

Summer - Bradfield College, Berkshire

Spring courses take place 10th July to 21st August 2022 at the leading independent school, Bradfield College for students aged 8-17 years old. Programmes include General and Intensive English, English plus Tennis and Ready for GCSE for those studying for exams in the UK.

Summer - Wycliffe College, Gloucestershire

Wycliff is close to Oxford and the Cotswolds are and gives a true, traditional British experience. Summer courses take place from 6th July to 17th August 2022 for learners aged 8 - 17 years old. Programmes available include General & Intensive English, English + Master Chef Challenge, and English + Exam Preparation (Cambridge/IELTS).

Summer - Ampleforth College, York

The beautiful Ampleforth has an academic history dating back to 1802 and is well-known for its fantastic range of sports facilities and the programmes available take full advantage of these. Courses take place from 3rd July to 14th August 2022 for learners aged 8 - 17 years old. Programmes offered are General & Intensive English and English + Adventure Sports.

Loretto School, Edinburgh

Loretto School is Scotland's oldest boarding school dating back to 1827. Courses are available from 6th July to 10th August for learners aged 13 - 17 years old and include General & Intensive English, English + STEM and English + Golf.

Summer - BSC Dublin

For those wishing an Irish experience, older students can go to Dublin in Ireland (check visa arrangements for EU from your country). Courses are available from 3rd July to 14th August for learners aged 13 - 17 years old for the General English + Explore Dublin programme.

Lexis - London

The summer Learn English & Discover London Programme is for ages 12-15 and also 16+ and provides morning English classes with daily afternoon guided tours around London.

Every day has a different theme and takes you to a different part of London, escorted by a Lexis member of staff who will be your very own tour guide. In addition, the social programme has educational value and includes information material about the cultural and historical significance of the various sights, completing each day with a student quiz.

St Clare's Oxford

Offering courses for juniors, teens and adults, St Clare's is a fun place for Summer and is centred in the famous city of Oxford.

Junior courses – Active English (10-15yrs), Magic in Oxford (10-15yrs) and Young Leaders (13-15yrs).

Teenager courses for 15 – 17 yr olds – Interactive English (level A2 to C2), Intensive English (level B1 to C2), IB Diploma Introduction (level B2 to C2), Art & Digital Design (level B2 to C2), Business (level B2 to C2), Fantasy (level B2 to C2), and Science (level B2 to C2).

Adult courses (age 17+) – English for Life (level A1 to C2), English for Exams (level A2 to C2), English & Culture (level B2 to C2), English Combination (level A1 to C2), and Leadership Course (level B2 to C2).

St Andrew's

St Andrew's College Language Schools was established in 2002 with the main office in Glasgow City Centre. They offer summertime, residential English language lessons with a cultural programme, for young learners aged 11-18, across Scotland and England. The usual 14 night programme includes 30 hours of English and excursions. See locations below:

Scotland:

Celtic FC Football Academy + English

Train like the professionals and learn the techniques and tactics of football alongside camp mates of all nationalities. The football camp is held at the City of Glasgow College campus and the Football & English programme consists of 15 hours of training per week, combined with 15 hours of English per week. The students will also benefit from weekly presentations about health, nutrition, fitness, being a footballer in a foreign country and the importance of English by qualified football professionals. Included is also a visit to the famous Celtic Park stadium and a chance to train at Celtic FC's first-team training ground.

Glasgow

Two locations are available in Glasgow at the City of Glasgow College and also the Glasgow UWS Paisley campus with excursions locally and to Edinburgh Castle.

Edinburgh

Four locations are available at Queen Margaret University, Napier University (Merchiston), Napier University (Craiglockhart) and Edinburgh University (Leith). Excursions include the amazing Edinburgh castle.

Stirling

Stirling – one of Scotland’s smaller cities – is best known as the ‘Gateway to the Highlands’. Based at Stirling University excursions include a visit to Loch Ness - will you get to see the famous monster?

Ayr

Based at the UWS Ayr campus, with excursions including Edinburgh Castle.

England:

Brighton

Located on the south coast and based at the university of Sussex campus, excursions include the famous Brighton Pavilion and the Sea Life Centre.

Canterbury

Canterbury is an ancient city, famed for its cathedral and the rich history of pilgrimages that took place there, well documented by Geoffrey Chaucer in 'The Canterbury Tales'. The modern-day city is based around the cathedral and has many old, narrow streets with plenty of shops and places to eat and drink. Based at the University of Kent, excursions include Canterbury Cathedral and Leeds Castle.

Chatham, Kent

Utilising the Greenwich University, Medway Campus, entry is included to the Harry Potter Studios

Colchester

Based at the University of Essex located in 200 acres of beautiful parkland just outside the historic centre of Colchester, excursions include entry to Kings College Cambridge and a Thames River Cruise.

Leeds

The city of Leeds lies in the North of England, in the county of West Yorkshire. It is situated near to the ancient town of York, as well as the popular cities of Manchester and Liverpool. Based at Leeds Beckett university, it is an excellent base from which to explore Northern England. Entries include the Beatles Museum, York Minster and the National Football Museum.

London

London, the Capital city of England, is one of the most famous and multi-cultural cities in the world. London has something for everyone and being based at Greenwich there are plenty of local attractions with a Thames River Cruise included.

Gloucester

Gloucester, located very near the border between England and Wales, is home to the modern University of Gloucestershire. The Cathedral City sits upon the River Severn and nearby to the quaint town of Cheltenham and the natural beauty of the Cotswolds. The base at Gloucestershire University allows excursions to the Cathedral, Roman Baths and Stonehenge.

Nottingham

Nottingham, one of the largest cities in England's East Midlands, is known as the home of Robin Hood, and the city was also voted a UNESCO City of Literature. Entries included are for the National Space Centre and Alton Towers Theme Park.

Abbey College, Malvern Wells, Worcestershire

Since 1969, Abbey College has been running high-quality, all inclusive Summer English Language holiday courses. Our 70 acre campus in central England is ideal for holiday courses as it has everything a student needs in one of the safest locations in the country. All students receive over 16 hours per week of general English tuition from qualified EFL course teachers. The exciting and varied vacation course programme ensures students have something to do from when they wake up until they go to bed.

West Ham United International Football Academy

The International Day Camp Programme from the West Ham United International Academy and Choices International gives participants a chance to build self- confidence and to participate in team building activities. We want to ensure students enjoy their summer stay with us and to learn useful skills for the future. We create a warm, fun and safe environment for players, within excellent facilities. For 1-4 weeks in July 2022 and age range 10-17 for boys and girls (12-17 for goalkeeping).

WHAT IS YOUR LEVEL OF FOOTBALL?
Day camp participants can choose between different options:
● High Performance: For participants who are playing for a club or are highly skilled. Players can pursue the highest potential, focused on technical, tactical, team preparation and performance analysis plus injury prevention.
● English Course plus Football: 15 hours of football training plus 12 hours of English classes per week.
● Development Programme: designed to involve participants to practice and learn all footballing abilities.
● Goalkeeping Programme: specialised position training with unique drills & coaching insight. This programme is available in July from 4th July to 30th July 2022
● This programme runs from Monday to Friday

ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEACHING
Our programme is accredited by the British Council to guarantee the highest quality of service in English classes. Language tuition uses a fun, participative approach to learning and emphasises spoken language skills within a football context. Students receive 12 hours of English lessons per week, in classes of a maximum size of 15 students. Students are tested on arrival and placed with other students of approximately the same level.

Country Cousins

Mini stays and summer schools at Country Cousins, an award-winning school, are great fun and based at Ilfracombe in Devon. This South-West location allows for many outdoor activities including water sports, football and beach volleyball plus others such as street dance, musical theatre, table tennis and horse riding. Evening activities include BBQs, discos, karaoke, film evenings and may others. For a fun-packed time there is not better experience!

St Edmund's College Summer School

St Edmund's College was founded in 1568 and is set in an impressive 400-acre site. At the Summer School students are offered a fully integrated experience where they can learn, explore and develop through a mixture of classwork, excursions, artistic expression, sports, fun, relaxation and socialisation. The programme provides 22 hours of class-based teaching per week, a full schedule of on and off-site activities and a full-day off-site educational excursion twice a week.
